Visiting Bangkok This Christmas? You’re in for a Treat!

A woman enjoying Christmas in Bangkok

Although Christmas is not a traditional holiday in Thailand, Bangkok loves a reason to celebrate, and Christmas offers a perfect opportunity to dress the city in colorful lights and decorations.

Amanta Hotel & Residence Ratchada is a long-stay hotel in the Ratchada area of the city that makes an ideal base for your Christmas getaway. We offer spacious rooms with a kitchen and living area, an expansive swimming pool, a fitness center, a poolside restaurant, and a business center. We’re also conveniently located near the Thailand Cultural Center MRT Station. The MRT, BTS, and the Airport Express are all interconnected modern rail transit systems that can quickly get you to popular destinations all over Bangkok.

Visiting Bangkok at Christmas time is always a visual treat as the shopping malls pull out all the stops to attract crowds of eager shoppers looking for special gifts for their loved ones. Read on to discover our favorite places in Bangkok with the most spectacular lights, decorative displays, and Christmas events.

CentralwOrld

centralwOrld and the outdoor centralwOrld plaza are well-known gathering places for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. During Christmas, the shopping mall displays the largest Christmas tree in Southeast Asia. This 35-meter giant will look down over dance and parade events featuring Pokémon and 30 Pikachus from Japan this holiday season. The mall will also host special concerts. For an extra special treat, you can take the family ice skating on the rink that appears like magic every Christmas season at centralwOrld. Simply take the MRT to Sukhumvit station (which is the BTS Asoke Station) and then take the BTS to Chidlom Station.

B-Story Café

The B-story Café is the one destination on our list that isn’t a shopping center or mall. However, it’s so well-done and beautiful that it enchants everyone who visits. This cozy café is perpetually decorated as a traditional British café during a snowy winter at Christmas time, complete with Santa Claus and holly wreath decorations. It provides the ideal backdrop for Christmas pictures of the family. It’s also the perfect place to enjoy a fresh and tasty dessert or beverage and take a break from the Christmas events and activities in Bangkok. Take the MRT to Sukhumvit Station and the BTS to Rathathewi Station.

Siam Paragon Plaza

The plaza between Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery Center is also a popular destination at Christmas time, with large, themed, and colorful decorations and special events happening daily, like music and dance performances. Take the MRT to Sukhumvit Station and then the BTS to SIAM Station. The plaza will be right below you.

ICONSIAM Along the River

ICONSIAM is an immense and colorful shopping mall right on the Chao Phraya River. It has a plaza surrounding it that at Christmas time features a huge Christmas tree, colorful lights and Christmas decorations. Heading to the river area gives you a view of all the colorful Christmas decorations up and down the river.

To reach ICONSIAM, take the MRT to Sukhumvit Station and the BTS to Siam station. Transfer to the Silom Line at Siam Station and take the train to Saphan Taksin Station. You’ll see the river below you as you exit the train. Walk down the stairs to Sathorn Pier near the station. ICONSIAM has a free shuttle ferry that travels between the pier and the shopping mall.

Asiatique

Asiatique is a unique experience for the kids. This former warehouse by the river has been converted into shops, restaurants, and attractions. It features a large ferris wheel where the whole family can get a bird’s-eye-view of the twinkling Christmas lights along the river. It also has an ancient sailing ship tied up at its dock that the kids can explore. The large decks and walkways between the buildings also serve as a stage for the many musical performances that delight the seasonal shoppers. Having dinner at an outdoor restaurant overlooking the river and the colorful lights of Bangkok is an ideal way to spend a Christmas evening.

Asiatique also has a free and convenient shuttle ferry from Sathorn Pier. It’s about a five-minute ride down the river from Sathorn Pier, which gives you a chance to see all the lights and decorations.

The One Ratchada Night Market

Kids will love The One Ratchada Night Market, located near Amanta Hotel & Residence. This lively and colorful night market is right next to the MRT Station and features stalls selling everything from electronics accessories to clothes, shoes, and handicrafts. It’s also a great place to explore Bangkok’s wonderful street food while listening to local musical performances.

There will no doubt be many stalls selling specialty Christmas merchandise and decorations. Night markets are a fun place to poke around and buy discount goods you can’t find anywhere else.
