Exercise is a way for people to stay healthy and relieve work stress. It can be tough to find areas with paths and green spaces to break up the concrete and glass in cities.
Bangkok, on the other hand, is unique. The city provides spaces for varied lifestyles and purposes. Instead of one large city, Bangkok is a city of districts serving its residents.
One of these neighborhoods is the Huai Kwang area, which has several urban public parks. Huai Kwang is also the home of Amanta Hotel & Residence Ratchada. Business travelers staying at the Royal Suite of this hotel on Ratchada who long to take a walk in the sunshine and enjoy the sight of lawns and greenery, or engage in a spirited game of basketball or football, don’t have to travel far in Huai Kwang.
We’ll tell you about the public parks and green spaces in and around Huai Kwang.
Suan Phanphirom
Suan Phanphirom, or Phanphirom Park, is a small parcel of land next to the overhead Sirat Expressway near Praditmanutham Road. It features open green lawn areas surrounded by mature trees, which tend to mask the sound of the constant flow of traffic from the overhead expressway. It also has a basketball court for people who want to work off energy by shooting hoops.
MRTA Health Park
Closer to Rathada Road is the MRTA Health Park. This Huai Kwang public park can be hard to find, as you have to enter through the gates of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand on Rama IX Road. However, the park’s hidden nature can also be a blessing, as it’s rarely crowded.
The park has recently been added to Bangkok’s open spaces; with more people learning its location and how to reach it, it’s bound to become more popular.
A walking and running track circles a big lake with old trees to seek shade for a brief respite.
Somdej Saranrat Mani Ram Park
This park is also known as “Pink Park” for the color of its outside walls. It’s located on Phetburi Road at the foot of Ekkamai Road near Rama IX Road. The park has a children’s playground on a large lawn surrounded by mature trees and greenery.
This popular park is also often filled with people who enjoy its court games. It has sepak takraw, volleyball, basketball, and football courts. It’s an excellent place for spirited pickup games and for meeting local residents.
Muang Thai Life Assurance Garden (Turtle Garden)
The Muang Thai Life Assurance Garden is located at the corner of Ratchada Road and Soi Ratchada 18, behind the Muang Thai Life Assurance building.
You’ll find a pond surrounded by greenery and dug according to Feng Shui principles, where office workers can take a break from their busy day and watch the turtles raised in the pond swim and bask in the sun.
The garden, designed for people, has a big lawn for games or exercise. Two lighted basketball courts and two hardtop areas for volleyball are at the lawn’s edge.
Queen Sirikit Park
Lastly, for those who want to enjoy a colorful flower garden, Queen Sirikit Park in the nearby Chatuchak area is just a short MRT ride from Amanta Hotel & Residence Ratchada.
This expansive park boasts acres of carefully manicured and brilliantly colored blooms of all varieties. It also features walking and cycling trails, wide green rolling lawns, and a large pond where paddleboats and rowboats can be rented.
